The Good, The Bad and the Ugly Paramedic Book Series:

Book #1 in The GBU Series expounds upon the act that becoming a newly qualified paramedic or EMT is like a juggling act. With hands and minds full of ambition, fresh ideas, hard earned expertise and newly acquired knowledge, it can be challenging to maintain the high standards that you’re desperate to deliver. Even the best of intentions will be difficult to deploy, without recognising what's important, or why. This book is your guide to growing good habits, so that little of the bad and even less of the ugly can creep in along the way.

Book #2 in The GBU Series.
  • Are you still the type of paramedic you had hoped to be when you first set foot inside an ambulance?
  • Is it easy for you to go home at the end of each shift without questioning your actions?
  • Would your style of patient care be acceptable for your own family in their time of need?

Book #3 in The GBU Series, Reflective Rhymes for Patient Care is crammed full of pocket-sized reflections for doctors, nurses, paramedics, EMTs, midwives, mental health professionals, allied health services, educators and support staff.

  • Ideal graduation gift for those new to healthcare

  • Vital questions to provoke self-motivated accountability

  • Perfect conversation starters for group based discussion

  • Useful prompts in continued professional development

A Life On The Line:

This book tells what it’s like to be Darren Hodge on the end of a line and what it’s like to be a flight paramedic. Open, honest reports, warts and all, this memoir is an unflinching account of how it feels, say, to pluck people from imminent death. And there are some laughs on the way...

His career in Ambulance Victoria has been rich with opportunities. Only a few years had passed after qualifying as a paramedic he was offered the opportunity to undertake intensive care training, known as MICA. He found the role at times challenging, but highly rewarding.

 Tenures at the different ambulance college’s unearthed a love of teaching that continues today and has spanned more than 25 years. Assisting paramedics to master their craft has been one of his most satisfying achievements.

 After 15 years as a paramedic he achieved his ultimate career goal after joining Air Ambulance working on both fixed and rotary wing aircraft. He describes the role as extreme, attending the sickest and most seriously injured patients. A role that has seen him in the waters of Bass Straight, the deep Victorian bush and on top of the highest snow covered mountains, all to help a person in need.

He regards his experiences working with highly talented paramedics, pilots and crewman at Air Ambulance as a career highlight;
